God never fails to remind us of our purposes
I was doing a routine physical at BioLife Plasma and Jeanie the nurse was talking about my traumatic brain injury. I mentioned that “this is my job right now” with an embarrassed laugh. She said “it might be a communication difficulty. I can tell that your brain is working just fine.” Normally I get offended at comments like these, and I felt a mild irritation, but I knew she was well-intentioned.
And then came the plot twist. She told me about her nephew, a 40-year old who can’t talk or write, but still somewhat functions in society. She was surprised and impressed by my high level of functionality in comparison.
“I can tell that you’re a miracle of God,” she said. “You can be a great encouragement to people.”
With all of my recent questioning on my purpose and my next move, this simple and unexpected connection reaffirms my path and reminds me of why I’m on this earth.
